5. In what ways have I shown perseverance and commitment to my activities? I’ve shown this quality in two main activities that I have been involved with for years. One of these activities is the club Future Business Leaders of America. As president of the club, I have had to show extreme dedication because of how much time I’ve had to put into it. I’ve been in the club for 7 years and that is a feat that is rarely seen in commitment to a club. The club also went through a restructuring this year because we lost our advisors. I had to quickly reform the club at the beginning of this year because it was in shambles. I wanted to preserve the club that I had been involved in for 6 years, at that time, and it would have been disappointing to see such an educational club disappear. I have also shown this through AYSO VIP Soccer. The soccer club has displayed my commitment because I have been involved with it for 3 years. I’ve had a wonderful time helping special needs kids learn how to play soccer and I was excited to know that my efforts paid off in how my buddy Paul remembered the tactics I taught him and even remembered me. 6. In what ways have I worked collaboratively? I’ve worked collaboratively in many ways. One of the main ways I’ve worked collaboratively is on the FBLA Officer Team. As active president, I’ve had to take charge and command other high school students in achieving the goals that I desire. Throughout the years in FBLA, we’ve formed committees for planning events, organized socials, and attended competitions as a group. This has come from a lot of planning and it is hard to say that I could have done it without the collaboration of my team. I’ve also worked collaboratively through the process of being on a tennis team and swim team. In both, I’ve had to rely and cheer on others to make sure they did well and they had to do the same for me. It’s a great experience being on a team where competitiveness is the main goal. 7. In what ways have I been engaged in issues with global importance? I’m engaged in issues of global importance in many ways. One of the main ways on campus that I am engaged is through the Sharing Our Humanities Club. I’ve been involved in it for two years and through those two years I’ve learned a lot about global poverty and I’ve helped teach it to others who were in my position. I whole-heartedly feel that raising money for kids in third world countries is one of the best feelings I’ve ever had because I know that I am making a significant difference in a person’s and maybe even a town’s life. I’ve also been involved with issues of global importance through FBLA and Earth Club. In both these clubs, I’ve attended many beach/school clean ups because I don’t want to live in a world filled with trash. And I honestly do not think that the world should require a janitor in order to stay clean. I think that people should be good Samaritans and pick up what they left behind or what others might have left behind, out of the love for the Earth. 8. What are the ethical or moral implications of what I’ve been doing and learning? Overall, I’ve learned that all the activities that I’ve been doing have great positive ethical and moral implications, but they come naturally with the joy I receive from accomplishing them. For me, being involved and doing activities wasn’t about heightening my status or making myself feel better about myself, it was more about doing what I could to fix an ailing planet and society. Ultimately, I’ve wanted to make a better tomorrow for my future kids and family.
